115 Pregnant Girls at Chicago High School
115 Pregnant Girls at Chicago High School
A total of 115 girls are pregnant at Chicago's Paul Robeson High School. The entire school only has about 800 girls, so that means that 1 out of every 8 girl is pregnant. picked by ruthstark 1 month ago

That's because it's not an article, it's a video transcript. Here is the video.

Wow, some of the comments on that page are just ridiculously racist. Scary, really.

And the note in the video: "Please share further failures of public schools and feminism and equality they would have been shamed in Catholic schools for being loose women" just makes me want to RAAAAGEEE.

Kinda makes me wonder why there isn't a black serial killer who kills racists...Hmmm...idea for a TV show?

I really like how the school is handling it though. It's wonderful that the principal wants to emphasize that they aren't punishing the girls for making a mistake, but want to help them proceed with their lives. This is important not only for the mother's sake but for the child's, no child deserves to be treated as if they were their mother's 'mistake', by their mothers or by society.

High teen preganancy rate is a direct effects of the degradation of our society. In earlier years boy were told to keep their pants zipped and girls, their legs crossed. That seems now to be considered "uncool". Since out society now wants to be "cool", you are going to have the consequences of being "cool".

Did you just quote one of the story commentors?

At any rate, even societies that don't promote the "coolness" of teen sex end up with the same problems...they just deal with it differently.

Obviously there are going to be those problems in any society. You need to compared % of teens that get pregnant to get a real picture.

Of course the difference in sexual education doesn't matter right?

Back in the times when kids slept in the same room as their parents, there was no real problem about girls getting pregnant too soon: they knew what would come of it.

Nowadays kids are being kept in the dark about sex and the consequences of it, they're just being told "Don't do it and there won't be any problems". While that's true, it also fails to address 2 specific teen mentalities: curiosity and rebelling.

"If adults keep doing it (as evidenced by TV and magazines), and we're not allowed to, it must be very fun indeed. They just don't want us to have any fun."

And since contraceptives aren't even mentioned in class ("Are you kidding? If kids knew there was a way they could prevent those consequences of sex, they'd be f**king like rabbits out there"), guess what the result is...

With your bunny avatar, this quote is priceless!

Edit...and I agree. Not educating kids about something that really, they WILL figure out the mechanics of on their own is absurd. Like kids need a class to figure out how to have sex? No. They need the class to figure out how to have sex SAFELY.

I didn't see any mention of the sex education offered at this school, how do you know they teach abstinence only. Did I miss something?

Looks like it changed in 2006. Chicago changes sex-ed policy Little late for girls who are in high school now.
