This will never stop, just as violence, theft, and arson will never stop.

What I would like is for more emphasis to be placed on date/relationship rape since that seems to be where it happens most often.

I was reading some stats and it is alarming how many highschool/college guys think date rape isn't a big deal. This is what really needs to be worked on. The isn't isn't the act, but the fact that not all guys understand how much it really hurts a woman.

« bingo : I see this going back and forth between Lynx and Gammerus agreeing with all this, and please don't take offense ladies, but I think it's sad.

That one would feel like such second class citizens, that you think guys have it so much better than you do. It is so not the truth.
But no matter what I, or anyone else says, you won't believe it.

You need to get the chip off your shoulders about the crappy gender hand you think you were dealt.

I, for one, think I'm lucky it be female.
To the contrary. I love my femaleness. I'm just hate how much guys seem to focus on looks. It is a person pet peeve really. It's like we are devoid of personality or something.

Here is an example that happens pretty often. Take most any film that isn't aimed at the women or children.(well sometimes children)
There is most often a group of people, each one with their own personality. There is the smart one, the fat one, the stupid one, the strong one.. and there is the woman. Most films always seem to have a a cast of mostly male main characters, and throw in a female or two for a love interest, or because that technically counts as a different personality.

I have not real problem with how stuff goes down irl, I just feel under represented in the media, and unacknowledged for things other than boobs.

This feels like another complaint about societal norms rather than actual gender issues. Girls focus on looks too. And even worse they criticize both sexes for their looks.

Great point. I've been on both sides of the desk(mgt/underling).

Can't a societal norm also be a gender issue?

It's something that both parties are guilty of, not just men. It's not so much because of gender but because of the way we are wired. Everyone judges based on looks, even subconsciously. All first impressions, especially, are to do with looks. This is the only reason the high fashion industry survives. This is why we have a business uniform. This is why you dress up for interviews. And yes, it's common knowledge that women are just as capable of making, and do make, sweeping judgements on a person based on looks alone, just as men can.

I would say it's a human psychology issue, not so much a gender issue.

This represents the inherent problem in your stance on the issue.

Because these things are better learnt than told I'm going to give you the chance to work out exactly what is wrong with this sentence, but if you can't get it I will tell you.

Lynxears has a (most likely subconscious but still prevalent) misandrist stance that comes very much to the fore in such discussions.

That the solution should be for "men to stop raping" requires that men be rapists. The truth of the matter is that some men are rapists (as are some women). If the comment had read "Or for rapists to stop raping" it would have made more sense.

I have never raped anyone. I'd wager that you haven't either. I'd go further to say that the actual number of rapists worldwide is a tiny proportion of the population. Yet Lynx is exhorting men to stop raping.

In any other circumstance - if it were implied that all blacks are gangsters because some are, or all Americans have a poor sense of geography because some do, or all Chinese are dog eaters because some are, etc. - then the relevant label of whichever ~ism applied would be rightly cried in response.

Yet that I was the only one to call it to Lynx' attention suggest that this sort of prejudice is acceptable.

Are you happy with being called a rapist?
