Mike Tyson... Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters? This is surprising to me for two reasons. The first is that, given the way he speaks, I am surprised that he writes very well. I think that would be a requirement for a doctorate in LETTERS. Secondly, I would think that a Doctorate in Humane Letters would require you to be HUMANE. Doesn't rape and biting the ears off of another person preclude you from being called "humane?"

really, you are going to make assumptions on someone's intelligence based on their speaking voice? What a wonderful person you must be.

Also, he did not rape anyone. A conviction doesn't mean that it happened. It is quite obvious that it was fully consensual.

I think you're misunderstanding the term 'honorary'.

No...I'm basing it in what he's said, not his speaking voice. "I want to eat his children" jumps to mind.

A jury of his peers found otherwise, which in the eyes of the general public, makes him a rapist. Unless you were there, I don't think you can say that the sex was consensual. I wasn't there, so I'll trust the jury on this one.

No, I really understand the term "honorary." I know that he didn't complete the coursework, write a thesis and defend it.

Usually a honorary doctorate of letters is bestowed upon someone who had distinguished himself in the arts. My opinion is that Mr. Tyson had not earned that distinction and that the "university" in question was doing it to garner publicity for itself.
