Oh, we hit a coyote, it's probably dead, so let's just keep driving for another 8 hours.

Smells fishy. If a fast-moving car hits anything, there's damage to the car. When you hit something with your car, you don't just keep driving for 8 hours, you get out and check how bad it is.

I think there's something fishy about this story.
