Yep, it is true.
In the Netherlands, medical bankruptcies are also pretty much non existent (There are always a few, because of people using experimental treatment that is not covered as a last ditch effort)

My father (RIP) had a lifelong battle with diabetes and had heart problems, yet that never caused any financial problems at all.

Don't take this personally or be insulted but this is a rather slim post.

"Franken exposes health care lies"

lies? No lies exposed, not even a lie.

all the post consists of is Franken pointing out that medical expenses, even when insurance pays 80% of the bill, is a large percentage of bankruptcies. Something that is well known and is not contested.

Slim posts may be fine from time to time, but such a deep subject should have more meat. I presume there are quite a few actual lies/misleading "facts" about health care that should be discussed.

I think that all homes should by the Government so that there should never be any bankruptcies caused by mortgages.

I think that that people shouldn't get new business loans to start a business that could support their family, since it may cause personal bankruptcies.

If we make everything government run, we will never have any risk, and never have any bankruptcies.

It's a shame that some people will have to go bankrupt some times. It really is. Thankfully, we live in the greatest country in the world, where you have a bankruptcy option, and you can start fresh. It will take time and effort, but at least you will be healthy.

Franken spews such socialist crap, it's crazy.

Are you being sarcastic or are you just insane?

What is a medical bankruptcy? There is no such legal term, as far as I know.

I know what Franken means though, a bankruptcy caused by very large medical bills could be called medical.

But don't most devastating medical issues also involve not being able to work, or being much less able to work than you were before? Loss of income has to be a factor in many cases.

Your solution is less efficient than what he proposes, even if we take you sarcastically.

It could be argued that Diana Furchtgott-Roth's claim about single payer causing more bankruptcies is a lie. The senior fellow at the Hudson Institute would have researched the claim and would know that it wasn't true. It certainly has the appearance of a blatant lie.
