I can't buy ths statistic. How much would you have to charge for this bit of dog food?

....43 square miles of land needed to create just 2.2 pounds of dog food cereal.

A medium sized dog isn't usually a road hazard, doesn't take up 2 parking places, and isn't a sign of needing to compensate for anything! It also costs less to feed for a month than one tank of gas for that SUV!

The grain used in dog food is being grown at the same time and in the same fields as human grains. So if we don't make dog food, we can starve some vegetarians!

Dogs got on pretty well without processed dog food for hundreds of thousands of years.

It only really works out if you factor in that the dog owner buys all the food from a store that they drive to in their SUV.

Upvoted for comment/avatar synergy.

Edit: What's vitally important here is how often the SUV is used. A dog is always "on."

That's a good point. But unlike a car, the dog is not a tool to be used and then turned off. We're talking about a living creature.

Dogs are environmentally expensive, but so are humans.
