Whaddaya Mean Obama Hasn't Done Anything?
Whaddaya Mean Obama Hasn't Done Anything?
A blow-by-blow breakdown of the young president's first year reveals that today's frustration stems not from a lack of policy so much as a lack of common ground. The myth of the American center looms in this, the second part of a week-long series on our country since the 2008 election. picked by theclansman 3 weeks ago

« theclansman : You really need an example? it is pretty well known that Obama is all about getting bipartisan support for his ideas. Example: Healthcare.
I needed an example to show what a bunch of BS it is to claim that he's NOT being able to accomplish something is because of bipartisanship.

First off, Obama didn't write a healthcare bill, but lets say that the bills are all of his ideas.
The Dem's control both houses, Helthcare has NOT been passed yet because of Democrats....not because of anything else...Republicans couldn't stop it if they wanted to.

It's a huge load of horse apples to say his or any Dem. lack of being able to pass Healthcare (or anything else) is because of bipartisanship. Much like saying we need Healthcare reform immediately, but it won't go into effect until 2013.

It's a real shame that so many Americans refuse to see anything good about Obama.
The shame is that so many people refuse to see anything political about Obama...you know, the "Hope and Change" guy that's really just more of the same.

I do agree with you though, in 3 years it probably won't matter.

Is this supposed to be a joke?? Bush is the king of vacationers!

Bush spent over 487 days on vacation during his 8 year stint. Might be a record for presidential vacations.

"Yes, that's 487 days. And Camp David is not even where the president has spent the most time when not at the White House: Knoller reports that Mr. Bush has made 77 visits to his ranch in Crawford during his presidency, and spent all or part of 490 days there.

« gammerus : I still think people are nitpicking too much over his personal time. Being president is one the most stressful jobs in the Us, some unwinding time is crucial.

No, this is a joke...

Donald Rumsfeld is giving the president his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, 3 Brazilian soldiers were killed."

"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.

Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

It's no secret I'm not an Obama supporter, and I'll give him credit when credit is due. But I'm not going to ignore the bad with the good.

I don't think you have or will give him credit where credit is due. I haven't heard you say one positive thing about the man ever (granted I probably haven't read everything you said), and you seem to be singling out the golf trips (noticing the bad) and not mentioning (ignoring) the fact that he has probably been to more foreign countries and has improved relations with more nations in his first year than Bush has. I don't have stats for this so I could be wrong but thats what it seems to be. (the good)

Pretty much. I think his vacation days were good material for jokes, but that is about it. Even tho he spent a lot of time out of office, Bush got s**t done. While it wasn't good s**t, it still got done.

« icepigs:Obama has played 24 rounds of golf in his first year. That's more than Bush played in 8 total years. (That averages out to 2 games a month for Obama)

Obama has headlined 22 fundraisers in his first year. (Almost 2 per month) Bush did 6.

So, as you can see - Obama doesn't have time for a lot of things like leading the country and healthcare as his calendar is already full.
And Bush took the second longest continuous holiday (28 days) of any president.

He holds the record for the most vacation time of any US president - 58% of his time in office was vacation time. How much of your year is vacation time?

In his entire time in office he went to more fund raisers than any other president before him. He also held less press conferences than any other president.

So where do you want to go with this numbers thing?

EDIT: Apart from pointing out that it's clear I didn't read the second page of this before making that comment, that is...
