Fort Hood massacre major cried 'Allahu Akbar' before attack
Fort Hood massacre major cried 'Allahu Akbar' before attack
Officer who brought down Hasan was Sergeant Kimberly Munley, who responded within three minutes of the shots ringing out.

"In an exchange of gunfire, she was wounded but managed to wound him four times," Cone said. "It was an amazing and aggressive performance by this police officer."

Hasan's cousin, Nader Hasan, described him as "a good American".

Apparently not...

He said the family was "shocked", adding: "We just found out on the news that he was being deployed, he never even told us.

"We've known for the last four or five years that was probably his worst nightmare. He deals with stories, he would tell us how he would hear things, horrific things."

I don't think we should trivialize the impact of the stressful and scary stories of returning soldiers on the mental health workers who try to help them or the soldiers who experience them.

It's not just this guy who has to go through these things. And it's highly disrespectful of the soldiers dealing with PTSD and the health care workers to just say "boohoo."

I do not think it is an excuse for his horrific behavior, but neither should we brush off those very real issues.

The guy was never even deployed! You can't have PTSD from hearing sad stories!

First of all, yes you can. Or something similar called "Compassion fatigue," where the person gets tired of hearing tragedies to the point they lock them out.

Second, even if he didn't directly have PTSD, it is disrespectful to those who have PTSD to discount it with a "boohoo."

You know what, I have friends who have PTSD, and now that I think of it, one who was a Chaplain and took a long time to adjust after getting back from Afghanistan. He did funerals all the time, and of course heard everyone else's stresses and strains. So I guess you're right.

I can sympathize with that.

But don't take my dismissal of this guy as a general statement to anyone with PTSD or even hearing-derived PTSD.

It was very specifically directed towards this a*****e, who I have ZERO f**king sympathy for. None. I don't care if he saw babies flung against trees in real life, that doesn't give you an excuse to go murder as many people as you can, especially people who are supposed to be able to be doubly trustful of you as a brother in arms and as a counselor.

The guy should be executed as a traitor.

And there are literally thousands of people who have endured far worse without going on killing sprees.

Read the book With the Old Breed.

Oh, I'm not arguing that it's an excuse at all (I did say that originally). I'm just saying that the way you put it could be viewed as a "boohoo" to all persons with PTSD and their caretakers and I thought that was out of line. It's less of an issue now that no one else is reading this because it was a dupe.

By all means, he deserves what justice he gets.
