Japanese Rape video games :(
Rapelay, a 3D game created by a Japanese firm, Illusion, with a storyline prodding the player to rape a woman and her two teenaged daughters in a moving train, a park and a restroom, is among the hot picks in the grey market (in India). picked by tgkprog 4 months ago

This is heartbreaking. Why hate women so? I just don't understand.

Considering this sort of thing is common in japanese porn and japan does have pretty low rape statistics, I am going to assume this is no different than grand theft auto. While I find it highly disturbing, I believe it is nothing more than fuel for those into bdsm.

Edit: not that games meen much, my favorite games have always involved hunting animals.

In the game they act out a fantasy of causing harm to women. This is misogyny. Does playing the game help them resolve their hatred? I don't know. I just find it all sad.

Two notes: First off, this game is banned in Japan, along with all games like it. I believe the law banning it was passed just this year.

Second of all, while rape statistics are low in Japan, that only applies to reported rapes. There is a serious issue in Japan with rapes not being reported to the authorities.

Although I think that it is a right to fantasy that should be protected, I think there's something a little off here. Yes, Japan has very low statistics for rape, but rapes aren't reported very often there. The societal dynamics are illustrated very well in the "Super Free" scandal at Waseda University.

this is true, and it does make me wonder. But I still don't think it should be banned. This goes against my own gut feelings of revulsion, but I think this is a good outlet. Much like violent killing games and other ones where you get to play the villain.

I personally really don't like it, but I know that violent video games are great for when I have a lot of bottled up frustration; the same might be said for those into bdsm or god forbid real rape.

I agree. The game itself disgusts me, but banning it sets a very bad precedent.

Do video games really serve as an 'outlet'?

I would love to see the psychological science of this claim, as it seems to go against what I have learned about the human mind, and it sounds like its just corporate science.

Of course, banning it is a complex issue anyway, and I would need to think for longer before I come out on either side of this question. The precedent would have dangers...

I wonder about this as well. I have heard that punching pillows and throwing stuff when you are upset only makes it worse because it is an addictive behavior.
