Italy investigates report baby lived through abortion
Italian officials are investigating reports that an infant survived an abortion, living for "a whole day" after having been left to die by hospital staff, the Italian Ministry of Health said.

The "premature newborn ... survived an abortion at 22 weeks of pregnancy," the ministry said, citing "media reports." Pregnancy normally lasts about 40 weeks. picked by cecilberman 1 year ago

Five months along??!!
Is that legal? It shouldn't be.

There seems to be a few key things missing from the story.

Then again, telling the whole story may not be sensational at all, so "forgetting" to include a few important details can take a story from "sad but boring" to "shocking and sensational".

It's not, unless the foetus is severely deformed, or the mother's physical and/or mental health is in jeopardy. I guess you didn't read the article?

I did. I still didn't think it was legal so far along.

What do you think was missed?

I would have thought that if the baby was that far developed, that they would have induced labor or performed a Cesarean to birth him, and then put him in prenatal care. It's not ideal but I'm pretty sure we can nurture infants born even that early, can't we?

There are investigations underway, anyway, so it's natural that we wouldn't have the full story.

Where would be a good age line on abortion, and why?
