Relatives of the skipper of a catamaran that was found drifting empty off the Great Barrier Reef said today that they had been in "spiritual" touch with him and believe that he is fighting for his life "somewhere dark".

It's obviously a very stressful and disturbing time for the families of the missing men, I'm not trying to reduce that somehow.

But have you-all seen the comments posted at the bottom of the linked article? The third one is hilarious. I don't go for the UFO option, but I don't go for the piracy one, either. (Who steals only the crew and leaves all the stuff behind...?)
The Bermuda Triangle is too far away.

I can only think of some scenario with one swimmer in the water, in some sort of trouble, (maybe fell from the mast, explaining damage to the sail) others jumped in to help, and the boat drifted away faster than they could catch up. Or something similar. We may never know, of course.
