in 1992, Disney would get busy irking the Arab-American community with sharp lyrics from Aladdin, "where they cut off your ear / if they don't like your face. It's barbaric / but hey / it's home."
I saw nothing wrong with that.

This guys really seems to have a pole up him bum... Some stuff wasn't cool, but there really is nothing wrong with making fun of people. People in europe wear speedos, people in america are fat, and many people from australia have a badass accent. Are you telling me we have all this god given comic material and we are not allowed to use it?

/me ridicules gammerus for being who she is *insert lame jokes here*

Yeah, that sure feels good. I'm sure you enjoyed it too. I mean, I did my best to humiliate you until you cried, but it was funny, so that makes it okay, right?

I learned a long time ago that it is not okay to make fun of people. Yes, it happens, and some people are way too sensitive about it, but that does not make it right. I spent my entire childhood being the butt of jokes, and there were times that I felt so s**tty because of it that I wanted to kill myself. So go on, make fun of people because they're not perfect. You're laughing, so why even care how they feel?

Now, about the article. As long as these cartoons are available in some form for viewing (for historical purposes, of course), I don't see the problem of not having them run non-stop on Cartoon Network where they can teach kids how funny those "blacks, homosexuals, southerners, the mentally ill, Arabs, Candians, Eskimos, Italians, Hispanics, Asians, Jews, Germans, Russians, Australians, Indians, the Scottish, the French, the Irish - and yes, even Martians" are just because they're not straight, white, "perfect" Christian Americans.

Making fun of someone for who they are is different than going overboard and trying to make people cry. I am a vegetarian (yes I eat animal crackers) and yes I get a good amount of mockery from this, but as long as it isn't ment in a malicious manor than I am perfectly ok with it. People need to laugh at themselves, if we cannot laugh at all the stupid things people have done then we are just going to live our lives tiptoeing around issues.

But you are not the person who should be drawing the lines. You don't know how much a comment is going to hurt someone else until you've already said it. What may be fine for one person is hurtful to someone else. And what if I'm having a bad day? Should I plaster on a smile just so you can crack a joke? Also, keep in mind that sometimes it's hard to tell if someone is joking or just trying to be mean. Don't justify your own rude remarks (in general; I'm not referring to anything specific you've said here) by saying that everyone else needs to lighten up. And no, I'm not saying that you shouldn't be able to laugh at anything or anyone. People do plenty of stupid things. However, laughing because someone slipped on the ice and fell on his butt is completely different than laughing at a fat person because he's fat, or at a Chinese person because he's Chinese.

This is all very true. Everyone is bothered by something different, and everyone is indeed affected by something different. I am still ok with making fun of people for things which I think I funny. Things such as... bad hair, rednecks, hippies, scientology, and the occasional crazy bus stop guy. I don't think it is right to make fun of people for things they cannot help, but if they choose to do something stupid then I will take it upon myself to laugh.

Speedy gonzales = funny

daffy = funny

hitler singing disco = funny

genoside = not funny

southern, redneck, and hippie stereotypes = funny

1225lb fat guy = funny for about 30sec until you realize he has a problem then it is sad.
