"Text messaging, with its use of phonetic spelling and little or no punctuation, seems to pose a threat to traditional conventions in writing."
No kidding ...

The report laments that, in many cases, candidates seemed "unduly reliant on short sentences, simple tenses and a limited vocabulary."
I was like, you know, duhh! (An example of the way many kids today use more sophisticated language, featuring expanded vocabulary and complicated grammar... Tenses? Whazzat?)

Annoys me too.

And what annoys me even more is that I have to press those little phone keys a couple of times to get the right letter, or use some embedded dictionary thing which I never get right. A problem, in any case, since I write alternatively in English, Dutch, Afrikaans, and some sort of pidgin mixture of all the above (for which there is no dictionary anyway)...

I'm seriously planning to get myself a little smartphone thing with a proper little QWERTY keyboard.

I used to text but now I feel so lazy to type and prefer to just make a call.

You know, you can turn the dictionary function of, so it doesn't predict the text you're trying to type. The dictionary function annoys me too because I don't know how to use it.

Just the Irish kids, you say? If I'm texting on my cell, I don't mind using txt spk to save some characters, but I can't type in forums or on MSN knowing that I'll look like an retard spelling lazily and leaving out punctuation. If I'm feeling really naughty, I'll forgo capital letters. ;)

The spell check in Words is quite handy when you don't remember how to spell something.
