HOW COULD THEY DO THIS.

Now "real" chocolate will become expensive :(

All of the links from this page pointed to material from a smaller chocolate maker, articles that used this site as a sole source, and blogs that link back to this sight. Sound like he is afraid to lose business?

For those that like to go to the source, rather than get info from CANDY MAKERS complaining about competitors, the actual petition is HERE.

It doesn't say anything about changing chocolate, specifically. It also does not say, we would never know the difference.

It is FDA solicited recommendations to streamline the process of making and enforcing regulations that affect these groups. They are trying to find a way to allow companies to use new technologies without making it impossible to go to market.

It also specifically calls for a set of labeling standards that are the same as for "non-standardized" foods. They would have to say on the label, for example, "reduced fat", but they would no longer have to say "Ingrediants not in regular _______".

There are several "citizens petitions" to the FDA in opposition to changing chocolate, all after the this groups petition. All mention this group or almost exactly quote it. I do have to call out his one as particularly funny. It essentially says "We don't have an opinion, we're taking a poll and will get back to you."

Not any more than "real" mayonaise did when "reduced fat" mayo came out.

They petition isn't even directly about chocolate, this site (run by a chocolatier) just doesn't want to lose the advantage he has under the current rules.

Always question when a CHOCOLATE MAKER opposes a rule about chocolate manufacture. It isn't your tastebuds he wants to protect, it is his wallet.
