Shouldn't this be under religion?

(Love this routine.)

Possible plagiarism? Jesus did almost the same routine a few thousand years ago:

Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." (Matthew 22:37-40)
[Edit:] Oh, and he forgot a last commandment on his list... "Thou shalt keep thy lack of religion to thyself."

I think Carlin's list was better than what Jesus managed to come up with.

I agree with one thing, preaching positive atheism is about as annoying than preaching religion. Sharing your religious thoughts (including atheism) unprompted should be punishable by death.

Edit: That being said, I've never heard of atheists going door to door trying to convert people, or doing missionary work pushing their beliefs to native people.

Well, death is a little harsh, but someone saying how they feel about their relion (even unprompted) doesn't bother me.

What crawls under my skin is the almost-always critic standing there to point out how wrong the person is for believing what they believe or don't believe. What I believe is firm and absolute - TO ME. But it is still just that, a belief. I have no proof...I just have my faith in it. If someone chooses to see otherwise, I can't call them wrong just because it's not in sync with what I feel.

Ok. "Pushing" your religious thoughts unprompted. And maybe death is too harsh, something mild like decapitation should be sufficient.

People came to his show to hear him "preach" his beliefs. If anything, he was overly prompted.

I do believe there's a little thing called Freedom of Speech. Maybe you've heard of it?

I have. However, I was responding to Carlin's final addition, tacked onto the end of his routine: "Keep thy religion to thyself."

In all fairness, if I must keep my beliefs to myself, then I expect him to be quiet about his as well.

But, it would be a whole lot nicer if both sides could be a bit more considerate of each other and stop caring what other people think.

Because clearly, if something is allowed in the Constitution, that makes it right.

I don't see him, or any other atheists pushing their slogans to be printed on money or public buildings. The day someone seriously demands that "There is no God" should be printed on US dollar is yet to come. As I said above, I don't see atheists going door to door pushing their ideology to random people.

Preachers can preach in their churches to their choir. Atheists can preach in their own conventions to audience that went there knowing what was coming up. I believe that's what was meant with the "third commandment".

Though he does in later bits, he never once says that he did not believe in a god in this one. And once again, everyone there paid to see him express his beliefs. Everyone that sees the Ten Commandments in various establishments did not pay to see other peoples beliefs displayed around a city, town, or wherever.
