They note women have been tinkering with nature since the advent of birth control pills and now endure as many as 450 periods, compared with 50 or so in the days when women spent most of their fertile years pregnant or breast-feeding.
I've seen studies before where they say that suppressing menstruation should not cause any harm. I just wonder about the hormone dosages - and possible consequences there.

This looks like something that should be poured into the city water supply.

I don't think I'd want to be drinking some hormone soup with my water.

I just read in Cosmo (I know, I know) that the period that does come when on the pill is not real, and the only reason that the current pills still have the "menstrual" week is because early inventors of the pill felt that women would be more comfortable and natural if they still were able to keep a regular cycle. Needless to say, these eary inventors were men.

This cannot be healthy... granted it would be nice to be free of periods, but there's gotta be some kind of lashback once you gt off the pill (permamently reduced fetility?)

I took continuous birth control for about three years and nothing noticeably bad happened to me (well, yet, I guess.. but I doubt it will).

I was happier (no more cramps.. no more PMS... EVAR!) and actually felt much healthier.

p.s. I doubt fertility is permanently reduced.. I got pregnant within a few months of ceasing the pills, even after being on them for so long.
