 Centralia
Centralia
In 1962, burning trash ignited a vein of coal running close to the ground. The fires continues to burn to this day, making the town unlivable. Today, Centralia is a ghost town off of route 61. picked by kyot 3 years ago

•Centralia was an influence for the film/game "Silent Hill"

• Inspiration for the Dan Aykroyd film, "Nothing but Trouble"

• Most of the town was relocated by the government to a nearby town ironically named Ashland.

Interesting. Even when it rains, the burning coal doesn't die out?

Thanks! That was an interesting story.

Kind of strange that the Google ad on the right was selling indoor/outdoor wood & coal furnaces! A bit of human intervention needed there perhaps.
