This is tragic. But it is a fair warning toward Scientology, if you deny scientific truths, you may suffer the consequences.

As I've said before, Scientology IS a religion. It's not any crazier than any other religions out there.

i hear christians bashing on scientology and mormonism a lot. it kinda makes me giggle. and it's not because i look down on religious people or religions so much. religion offers a lot of good things, most notably the moral aspects. it is just that from an objective view point, all religions have their quirks. immaculate conception, space aliens, disappearing golden plates dug up in upstate NY, flying horses...like...really? i went to a catholic school, and it is amazing how quick people are to judge.

A magical mystical being that supposedly created everything, yet there is no proof that it ever existed at all... etc., etc.

I don't care whether you think so, but there is a difference between a religion and a cult.

no a cult is harmful in nature to the individual and the group. a religion is only harmful if an individual decides to become intolerant. While most religions started out cult like, most have evolved into a more placid organization.

individuals in the group have caused harm to people. Most religions (at least those that deserve respect)do not promote hate but preach love, and uniting mankind in various ways. Granted some old text is patriarchal and primitive, they are still evolving along with society. I believe in some sort of god and various things of that nature but I do not pretend to believe that any religion truly knows all there is to know about this world and the next.

The big problem with people is whenever you give them a group you give them cause to hate. You can have a group of vegetarians killing farmers, muslims killing christians, straight people killing gays, it's all the same; religion is not the problem, people are. Religion is just one thing amongst many that gives people an excuse to hate.

I can't respect religion because it spawns illogical thinking in humans, and to me that is not acceptable.

I respect your point of view, but I cannot believe that there is nothing more to life than what is tangible. I think religion gives hope, and helps people who are in need; I guess I am just illogical that way.

You certainly seem rather militant about the subject, but there is nothing wrong with logical thinking. I cannot conceive a world where there is no god, but I suppose you feel just as positive that there is none.

I suppose all one can do is agree to disagree.
