But the couple were determined to give Sarah a chance at life
Yeah, but at what price?
Her suffering?
Her never being able to really live?

I'm sorry to say that, but they made a bad decision, poor baby.

i agree! poor baby. is it possible that parents could be that selfish?!?!

that girl will never have a life. she'll be like a vegetable all of her (i assume short) life. that's just wrong. period.

The fact that science has kept her alive is more an insult to science than anything else.

She will have no life..she will die from this..keeping her alive is only what the parents want so they can see her "giggle".

I have a baby..I know how cute it is..but unless science has a future for her it's a waste of their emotions and will be that much more painfull when one of them do something that kills her.

I was glad to see the first 2 posts that agreed with me, I was hoping I wasn't the only one who thought how wrong and selfish the parents are.

If I were the mother I would have agreed to abortion once I discovered that she had the disease. Especially since the mother had previously had a baby with the same disease who did not live and spent an agonizing two weeks of life before succumbing.

I'm a big quality of life supporter. Why would you put another human being through so much pain and trauma?

I don't think anyone was suggesting that she be euthanized. Just commenting that the parents made a poor decision and didn't take the girl's quality of life into consideration, too. Now they all have to live with that decision and do the best they can for this child.

Who knows? Maybe there are recent advances that we "regular" people aren't privy to at this time. Perhaps the parents were given a ray of hope by some research they came across. I'm glad I've never had a decision like that, but I think if there was any hope of a cure at some point in my child's life, I would have had the baby too.

I wouldn't have had the baby. I couldn't. Poor little girl. I don't think it's fair at all, that's just absolutely horrible. In extreme cases I do think euthanasia is worth considering. That has to be the saddest thing in the world.
