Muslims want ban on Christmas trees and Easter eggs
Muslims want ban on Christmas trees and Easter eggs
“If headscarves are banned for employees who work at the desk at city services in order to guarantee neutrality of services, then we demand that no Christmas trees be set up in city buildings and that no Easter eggs be given out.” Antwerp trade union representative Badia Miri said this on Wednesday in the Gazet van Antwerpen. picked by kissmenow 2 years ago

« Turtle : Honour killings are not hate crimes committed by extremist Muslim's defending their religion but horrific crimes committed by family members protecting the family name, young women are murdered by their families if they commit adultery, adopting western lifestyle values, infidelity or simply fall in love with the wrong person. The concept of family honour justifies the act in the eyes of some societies.
No, sorry you are wrong. They are hate crimes committed by (a minority) of fanatic Muslims, committed because Allah demands that they do so, or at least that is their belief. It is 100% because of their religious beliefs. It may or may not be the beliefs of Islam, but it is theirs.

Complicity by other women in the family and the community strengthens the concept of women as property and the perception that violence against family members is a family and not a judicial issue.
Oh, I see... it is the women's fault that the men behave in a 7th century barbaric manner. Well that explains it all then. The women are compliant and the poor misunderstood men are mere victims. If only their mothers had taught them better, if only their wives learned to speak for themselves.

Of course it is hard for women to do this since they would be beaten and killed, left with no means of supporting themselves, and are they themselves brainwashed since childhood that they are mere possesions.

But I am sure you are correct, it is the women's fault.

I suppose you also say a woman who is raped is compliant as well or is it only women who are murdered by their family?

The can't change rules?
IANAL, but I've been led to believe that if an employee has been hired for a job with the understanding that said employee's religious practices will have an effect on the job, and then the employer changes the rules, the employee would have a good shot at winning a religious discrimination suit.

I'm open to the possibility that I've been misled, of course. If so, I'll just blame the folks who misled me and eschew all responsibility for my earlier statements. :D

« tundramonkey : Upon reading this (sometimes I read aloud), I wondered, what religion is 'ex-tian'? Why haven't I heard of it? Is it part of scientology, or something?

Then I had a lightbulb moment, realized Xtian is like Xmas, and felt like a tremendous idiot.
Funny that you say you realized it was a religion somehow but didn't catch the ref... I guess that's an artifact of quick sarcam? 'Xtian' (not "ex-tian", per quotations denote a literal remark) IS a really common abbreviation...

You mentioned the Xtian bible - my sleep deprived brain noted a religion (I said 'extian' as I was reading aloud) but not one I recognized.

I know it's a common abbreviation - that's why I feel like such an idiot.

The worst part? I was reading out loud while there were other people in the tent (my 'office' is a large 14'x16' tent) - and they are still making fun of me for saying 'xtian'.

« D3SPiTE : You just said Christmas Trees are not Christian...
A tree is not Christian, but a Christmas Tree?
That is clearly Christian

You cannot deny my logic!

Actually, no tree is Christain, whether a Christmas tree or not. Calling it a Christmas tree does not indicate that the tree subscribes to the beliefs of Christianity.

You cannot deny my logic!

Boat? Work on your geography. And not liking the rules of an employer is by no means a reason to leave the country.
