What the Major General doesn't realize is that we could pull our troops out any time and just say f**k the Iraqi people. Granted it doesn't help their situation, and would probably be detremental to us in the long term, but it could be done.

It could also be a disaster if the pulling out is not organized well. I can visualize the insurgents taking into pieces the last US units leaving the region. Before pulling out its best to make sure nobody will strike when most of the units are gone. To do that the units might have to stay there a bit longer. I know this is not the reason why they are still there and they do not do any steps to prepare the evacuation, but if they did, still they would not be out of there before the spring of 2008.

The longer they stay, the more difficult it will be to ensure a safe pull out. Where did I hear this before? Maybe SexEd class. Never mind.
