 Hidden method of reading revealed
Hidden method of reading revealed
The mystery of how we read a sentence has been unlocked by scientists. Previously, researchers thought that, when reading, both eyes focused on the same letter of a word. But a UK team has found this is not always the case. In fact, almost 50% of the time, each of our eyes locks on to different letters simultaneously. picked by AutumnLotus 2 years ago

This is logical and I thought obvious. I would even say our eyes focus on whole words or even sentences at once.

Surely the scientists didn't think we read one letter at a time? Did they think we read s-u-r-e-l-y, than translate that into "surely".

I don't think so, that would be incredibly inefficient. It would take several days just to read a single page.

Yes, that's true. I find that scientists often prove things that are somewhat obvious.

Yes, true. Amazing how special our brains are, making us able to do this. Or maybe it just illustrates how dumb computers are, that can just process information sequentially.

I'm no scientist, but shouldn't they have done an equal number of their experiments with one eyed people?

Or at least have the volunteers cover one eye and read for a bit, and then do the other eye. Read by candlelight, read with a book light, read in the dark...ok...I went a little too far there.
