God camel spiders are creepy. We used to find those things everywhere in Iraq. Nasty little buggers.

A friend of mine who did a tour in Iraq said that camel spiders would "chase" people, but they were just trying to stay in the shadow for the little bit of shade.

Is he bulls**tting me or no?

All I know is that when I was young and in the military, If I was to have been in a place like Iraq, I would have wanted to bring some live ones back home with me, to show my buds.

...how many of the troops may also have this idea?

Too many...

These things are teh suck. They hide underneath your Alice Packs while you're on patrol and sleeping. They hide in your boots, under your bunks, or worse... in the porta-johns, where you think you're safe.

They have one hell of a painful bite and an odd venom akin to the Brown Recluse. I knew a guy in my parent grunt unit who got face-bit. half his face is now scarred from where it ate away, plus got infected from the "abnormally" unhygenic areas in Iraq.

Not my son, he was totally creeped out by spiders at home.

And, YES, they do just try to stay in your shadow....so it would appear they are following you...My son did tell me that.
