“George Bush Doesn’t Like Black People”“
When Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans on August 29th, the aftermath that ensued only reaffirmed many of the black community’s beliefs that George W. Bush “doesn’t care about black people.” picked by gutanicolae 1 year ago

"Perhaps Bush does not personally hate black people, but his history of political decision-making does not strongly show otherwise."

Oh I disagree, I think he personally hates black people.

Wasn't it mama Bush that said (referring to the people displaced by Katrina and now seeking refuge en masse in the Houston Astrodome) "they're better off".

I've said it before and I'll say it again, you learn what you live. If his mama is a bigot....

Are you serious? Just because your parent believes something, then you believe it too? Please, that's just ignorant.

But more to the point... I love articles that seek to blame Bush for Katrina, and talk about race... and then fail to mention the white-female state governor... or the black-male city mayor, who also failed their people.

Shouldn't they also be called racists? After all, they were the once who didn't tell their people to evacuate until it was too late, they were the ones who didn't ask for federal help until it was too late, and they were the ones charged with more closely maintaining and understanding the emergency response facilities available in THEIR OWN home! Shouldn’t this also be evidence to call them all kinds of names?

But, it's GWB so it's okay to ignore the facts... just so long as it fits the story the author wants to tell.

Ignorant? Where do you think bigotry comes from? Do you think people are just born racist? Where is your evidence that people don't learn these behaviors from their parents because I'll innundate you with evidence to the contrary. I do really want to hear how you think it comes about, this should be good.

Nobody "blames Bush for Katrina". That was an act of nature. I'm really not sure where you got your information, but I clearly remember the mayor and governor of LA requesting federal aid the first day. But thanks to crony-ism Bush appoints his buddy to head FEMA with no qualifications, and that turkey does nothing after a state of emergency is declared. Bush is blamed for (and what the governor and mayor cannot be blamed for) is depleting the LA National Guard (well all the National Guard really, but in the instant case, the Louisiana guard) for his illegal war. Then the fact that the resources of the state were overwhelmed and required the federal government to step in and help, but they failed to act immediately, leading to more death and destruction.

Let's also not forget the funding cuts by the current administration prior to all this which would have provided the resources needed at the time.

Sorry to disrupt your little "Bush is the best" rah, rah party but the guy may well be the worst president ever, and is to blame and is responsible for a lot more than he's been targeted with. Time his sheep started listening to the bleat of a different drummer.

So you think that just because your parents do something, you're bound to repeat it too? People can't change from their folks... everyone is the same? Sounds like either you have some sort of God complex about your folks... or that you think your kids really really like you. Just because mommy and daddy are one way, that is no indication that the kids will defiantly be the same.

Sure some kids learn the be behavior from their folks… but some realize it’s bad, and change. Then again, some kids come from good parents, and for whatever reason, become bad people. Whether it’s their surrounding, friends, schooling, events that happen to them, or whatever… things can change. Do you honestly think that every person is just a carbon copy of their parents? If so, shouldn’t we lock up the kids of known criminals… after all, won’t they also be criminals?

And pardon me for not participating in your "Bush is to blame for everything" bashfest... but it's time for the scapegoat-ers and haters to realize he's not the boogeyman lurking in their closet. Yeah, he may not be the best president we’ve ever seen… but he’s blamed for everything, from a the bridge collapse that happened a month ago, to not personally repairing the levies in New Orleans. But you think he’s getting away with stuff… like what? What else could he have done, that somehow the press decided to give him a pass on?

You say that he “may well be the worst president ever…” So let me ask you, who else is on that list? Gimme the top five. I just want to make sure you’re a historian enough to make such a comment based on fact and history… not just because some blue blog shepherd fed it do you.

Regarding Katrina, as you seem to forget, the federal government can't step in until the local and state government asks for help. Perhaps this did come the first day… but by that point it was too late. The people were already trapped, many already dead, and it was going to take time for them to get there. According to a number of reports, was because Kathleen Blanco didn't want to ask Bush for help... for fear of making him look like a hero. And need I remind you of all those shots of school busses underwater, because Ray Nagin said he “couldn’t find drivers,” so instead of helping evacuated people, they busses stayed dormant.

And let us not forget the corruption and crime that has existed in the New Orleans area for… how long? Wasn’t that also Nagin’s responsibility?

Yeah, Bush screwed up his part of Katrina... no doubt... but only the most hardcore of hardcore haters can blame everything that transpired on him. And if that’s you… well then this conversation is over… because I refuse to waste my time with someone who’s decided that Bush is to blame, no matter what happens.

As for me… I’ll continue listening to the beat my own drum. If you want to follow someone else’s drummer, go right ahead.

I'm not the one who's name is "imnotblue" and whose profile screams "I'm red and that's that". You can call me a hater and believe as you will, I've kept an open mind, have moderate political beliefs and read and review all sides before I make a determination. I don't just decide "red is the way to go" and dismiss anything to the contrary. Nice of you to project though.

Your assumption is false.

My name is Redd... it has nothing to do with political affiliation.

Don't assume.

You have one interest in your profile: Politics. I didn't assume, you led me to that. But read the congressional record, then come back and we can talk again without you insulting me, ok?
