Real-life mermaid as double amputee gets a fish's tail
Double amputee Nadya Vessey will soon be able to swim like a mermaid with a specially-made tail that will let her propel herself through the water.

The keen swimmer is to be fitted with the "mermaid-style" tail made by the same special effects team behind blockbuster Lord of the Rings and King Kong. picked by daftgretel 1 year ago

Made by a special-effects team? Isn't most of that CGI? Why would they be qualified to do this?

Sure they are. Didn't you see all of the swords, armor, makeup and awesome props they did? It wasn't all CG.

Like what KillerBean said.

CGI was used as a last resort in LOTR. There is a lot where it's unavoidable, but so much of it was analogue, and a lot was done in camera.

Figuring that most "mermaids" were actually dugongs (sp?) and manatees, this one is prettier than most.
