So called? There is no debate on whether or not they exist, it certainly isn't a secret.


It is one thing to talk to students about how you feel on certain issues, but to try to force them to change is just stupid and arragant. People have to make those choices on their own.

This sounds pretty similar to christian parents keeping kids from public schools because they teach evolution. My guess is that people just take things too far sometimes.

So-called also means "commonly called", as in a common but unofficial term for something.

I always used to think it only meant "falsely called", but I saw it in too many contexts where that wouldn't make sense. So I looked it up.

In this usage, I think it means "commonly called", but it does seem wrong to me as well.
