I claimed in my War and Film class my senior year in college that anybody had the potential to become Hitler given their individual situation. My class members became absolutely indignant. They believed that Hitler was akin to the devil and completely evil. I disagreed and said that Hitler wanted the best for his country and people. This is what made him evil. He had human parts to him. I think anybody in the world might have become Hitler given the circumstance.
Granted, My views might be tainted by my Christian view of the world. That is, we are all sinners and that we all have the potential to become Hitler or Nazis.

I think he got a little too big for his boots. Power hungry for sure. Nonetheless what did was out of order and in some cases inhumane (referring to death camps).

Otherwise, we don't recognize our own capacity for evil. Soon its "us" and "them". That kind of thinking only leads to fascism and genocide.
