Adrianne Curry Boycotts Black History Month & BET
"I do not believe in seperating ANY RACE in America. WE ARE AMERICANS! How dare we have Black History Month... Yes, I get it. Black people were slaves here once. You know what? That does suck some major balls, however, it is time to move the f*ck on." picked by DemureArt 1 year ago

Good for her, I think Morgan Freeman said something similar a year or two ago.

I agree that there should not be a seperation of races, but the majority America doesn't see it that way...

I don't disagree with her, but I wonder what she would think of a women's history month.

I am a white, American-born, straight, male with a wife and 3 children. I am beginning to think I am becoming the minority these days. I want my OWN MONTH!

I'm not saying i'm for black history month but it seems the only time we get metioned in history classes are slavery, civil war and martin luther king(civil rights movement)

and on that note why do we have ethnic studies courses?

There is no "thinking" about it...you are a minority now.

Good for her. That's pretty much what your country was (supposed to be) founded on, yes? Equality?

I have to agree. As someone who lives outside the US I have never understood why black people are described as African-American. Surely Americans are Americans.

I wish I could remember when she said it, it was a long time ago...but Whoopi Goldberg said, "I am an American." and she is! I think we should study all history, white, black, Spanish, women, Asian, and just call it HISTORY. We are taught history to learn from our mistakes.

And as a people, not just Americans, haven't we just made way too many repetitious ones? If we had a course on all of them we might as well get rid of reading, writing, and arithmetic. You know, the "three R's" (even though only one begins with an R).

I know people who are offended by being called African Americans, since only their far ancestors were actually African. It's like calling white people European Americans.

Yes he did and I wanted to be sure so I found it.

I read about 1/2 her rant and I think she got most of it from Morgan Freeman and added some twists and made some changes to it in her little naive mind.

Who the hell is she anyway, the trophy on the arm of Peter Brady? What a claim to fame.

Well she does have a point, although said in a very pompous way. I agree with the idea of a history month that represents all Americans, but honestly it doesn't really bother me. It's merely an outdated tradition in which its function is to remind us of our past and to be tolerant and respectful of our differences.

Just because we celebrate our diversity doesn't make us racist. I'm all for unity, but not at the expense of everything that makes us unique ... 'cus well, how boring would this country be if we were all fricken clones?!

she has a rather underdeveloped understanding of the situation. Slavery was an abomoniation. Segregation was an abomination. However the Black population of today has not helped garner the respect for their race that they deserve. I also think that dedicating a month to them to make up for it is insulting. For true racial harmony there needs to be more black representatives in which all races can admire. They seem to be segregating themselves. imho of course!

She talks of us all being one race (presumably human) then divys 'us' up into the very small subcatagory of "Americans"... This confuses me.

I always wondered the same myself. If a white American with South African heritage walked into a room in the United States nobody would call him an African American, even though he should be according to the social mores of the US.

She won the first cycle of Tyra Bank's America's Next Top Model television program.

Not that it matters. The winners of that show typically suck and go nowhere. The girl who won the last cycle (Jaslene Gonzalez) is especially atrocious.

I admit to being an avid fan of the program, but I realize its utter pointlessness.

Having a 'Black History Month' is divisionary and just the sort of thing that stops cultures coming together - happening in the UK as well with all the political correctness and events to help the minorities - except it doesn't!
