Water forms floating 'bridge' when exposed to high voltage
When exposed to a high-voltage electric field, water in two beakers climbs out of the beakers and crosses empty space to meet, forming a water bridge. The liquid bridge, hovering in space, appears to the human eye to defy gravity. picked by 2manyusernames 1 year ago

That is so extremely cool. I wonder on how large of a scale that could be done.

I was wondering the same thing. Also how high of a voltage is required? I imagine the larger the scale the more voltage is required.

Not sure what practical use there is, but it is a cool and interesting effect

Agreed. I was thinking more from the artistic standpoint. Like making one of these enormous. Like stretching over a walkway somewhere.

Does anyone else think that Elmar Fuchs should win the award for 'best professor name EVER'?

After all the time I spent happily watching water pouring from the tap being deflected by little wires I made with batteries, I am amazed by this experiment.

I love science.

I want to see the nanostructure - or at least a diagram of it. Very neat.
