Philippines Demand An Apology from Desperate Housewives
Wha, wha, whine, whine. Due to a line in Desperate Housewives about a character wanting to make sure that the person's medical liscense didn't come from the Philippine, the Philippines are demanding an apology for the so-called "racial" slur. picked by 2manyusernames 1 year ago

A. It wasn't a "racial" slur. It was a comment about 3rd world countries.

B. Who the f. cares!? We are getting out of hand with being offended and demanding apologies and changes.

There is no story, no joke, no movie, no television show, that wouldn't offend someone.

Even if they said "some third world country" it would have been considered offensive by someone.
I guess they could have used a made up county, or said "Alabama"

This is getting out of hand.

The only one you can offend is Americans (well only whites, republicans, conservatives, and christians)

I have only one thing to say. IT IS A TV SHOW, a fictional TV show and shouldn't be taken so seriously. You have to take the comments into context. Stop taking things so personal.

I'd really like to see how a line in a TV series somewhere else, along the lines of, "...as long as the private contracted "peacekeepers" aren't from the United States, we won't worry about our children being slaughtered," flies when people here got wind of it...
Not to mention that this type of stereotyping reinforces in the minds of US citizens that other countries are deficient and we're better. It's a larger by far issue than just a joke that means nothing. Americans are short-sighted, and callous and I want to move from this place VERY badly!!

So go.

I'm sure that far worse is said about Americans all the time. So? I don't care, any more than I care that you just labeled all Americans as short sighted and callous.

It's a matter of perspective--if something is presented as a joke (ie, a fictional show), then taking it seriously is failing to put it in perspective.

I had a friend send the note about that around on a myspace bulletin. Needless to say, Filipinos are my new target. I'm rather sad of it, for I like filipino women. But, it's not up to me, it's unconscious. I will make fun of them now.

A certain race stays under radar until they start b***hing about imaginary racism.
I didn't even touch Mexicans (and I live in California) until they staged a protest.

Well, time to pre-apologize to all my filipino friends. I really don't have a choice in the matter. It's gonna happen now. *sigh*
