Awesome that they can recreate the guy's face from the obscured swirly effect!

Too bad that they now know that can be done...hopefully the reveal is worth it and this slime gets nailed to the wall. Or arrested. Either or.

PS - I changed the theme pic to be the guy's face. I hope that is OK with you murphyz!

It wouldn't have been that complicated... the effect would have been acheived with a photoshop liquify filter, so to reverse it is a simple matter of "twisting" it the other way - the original information still there, but just distorted.
edit:okay, maybe not a simple matter. You'd have to get the exact same settings used originally. Can't be too hard though.

I tried restoring the swirled image in photoshop using the TWIRL feature and got no luck. Either he used another program or he twirled it one way and then twirled it back another.

Anyway, I tried it on one of my own images [twirling the face and then twirling it in the opposite direction at roughly the same degree] and came out with a decently restored image so I don't know what he did differently with his to make it more difficult to restore.

Yeah, I did exactly the same myself and got the same result. Presumably there's some way to work out from the distortion pattern exactly what's been done to it.
