Man jailed for trying to pass $1M bill
Man jailed for trying to pass $1M bill
Change for a million? That's what a man was seeking Saturday when he handed a $1 million bill to a cashier at a Pittsburgh supermarket. But when the Giant Eagle employee refused and a manager confiscated the bogus bill, the man flew into a rage. picked by AutumnLotus 2 years ago

Even if there was such a thing as a 1 million dollar bill, stores can still refuse such high amounts of money.

Since when does the Giant Eagle carry a million dollars in change? That's just ignoramus.

Idiot.

But, one thing does annoy me, however. Sometimes (unfortunately not frequently enough) I have a 100 euro bill (or very infrequently) a 200 euro bill in my possession.

Try spending that in a shop in Europe... Some even have stickers on their cash registers, saying that they cannot accept these notes, since they don't have the change (in case of a small purchase) or in any case, don't want to take the risk that the note is forged. There are also real 500 euro notes in existence (don't think I've ever handled one), but I have no idea what they are good for, since nobody will accept those.

So then the question becomes: Why were they even printed? Also, assuming you don't need too much change (like if you buy something expensive) should a shop not be obliged to accept money that is legal tender?

I've handled a 100,000 bill in Vietnam. It was kind of difficult because the amount is so large.

The 500 Euro bill is printed in a creepy purple:

I once got 22 at a time, to pay for a new car. Looked like fvcking bogus.

A lot of places only take small bills for safety reasons. Another reason is time of day. In the morning your till usually has $80- 100 in it. If you break a $100 for a small purchase, your till will be empty. One place I worked for, had special markers for marking money. It would turn a color or something(can't remember) if the money was real. We had to do it with bills 20 or higher.

As for this guy trying to pass a MILLION DOLLAR piece of currency....D'OH!

Drug deals.

I've bought a gallon of milk with a $100 bill before because it was the smallest bill I had. They gave me change, but this was at a big grocery store.

Also, if you're going to forge money, forge something believable.

A couple of years ago, just after the introduction of the Euro, I was involved with a Christmas Fair at school, we collected quite a bit of cash, deposited that at the bank, and we found one 2 euro coin that was forged. Unbelieveable.
BTW, the bank made us pay for deposting cash, we had to sort and pre-package all the money ourselves into special holders and bags, and only one particular branch in town would accept such a cash deposit. How lame is that? When I told them that, years ago, in South Africa, the banks already used automatic sorting machines to sort and count coins, they looked at me as if I was mad or just making it up. Sometimes we can be soooo arrogant in the Netherlands!
