Star Trek Cast: Then & Now
Side-by-side photo comparisons of the new Spock, Chekov, Uhura, Scotty, Sulu, McCoy and Kirk. As if that was good enough, you can vote whether it's good or bad casting. picked by TheStep 1 year ago

Hmmm. Overall I don't think they did too badly... they're all a little too classically good looking, whereas only kirk should be really... but in the modern day of shallowness and such its to be expected.

Shaun of the Dead as scotty should be.. interesting. i think he'll do pretty ok as well as long as he doesnt play it.. too funny.

I think I'd start imagining the sound of ticking clocks each time Spock used the nerve pinch.

**The Classic Trekker Weighs In**
I like all of the casting EXCEPT for Kirk and McCoy. I can't wrap my head around either of those choices. And what is wrong with the author of this piece? The new guy is a "dead ringer for young Shatner"??? Uh, in what universe? No. A thousand times, no.

In a perfect world, Gary Senise would have been cast as McCoy* despite his age difference. McCoy WAS older than most of his crew mates. And Senise is a proven actor that would have helped to draw in the unwashed masses of non-Trek fans. I'm unhappy with the new actor. He might rock, but most likely he'll just suck.

I wonder if the new Sulu will even attempt to mimic Takei's voice? I wonder if he SHOULD?

Uhura's new actress rocks my socks. She'll be confident, intelligent, headstrong, and feminine... just like Nichols was.

I've never heard of the guy playing Chekov. He looks young enough.

I'm SO all about Simon Pegg as Montgomery Scott. He's going to be awesome. You just wait.

I was wary at first about Spock's casting. Being a hugetastic Spock fan, I wanted the most absolutely perfect casting, here. Not that I had any idea WHO that would be... but I was hopeful someone would come along. I held my tongue about Quinto for a long while and thought real hard about his performances on Heroes and his general appearance. I'm 90% on board with him at this point. I still have reservations about his ability to convincingly portray a Vulcan, since damn near everyone but Nimoy and Lenard has screwed it up fantastically.

Ok, sorry. I'll shut up now.

My general reaction to the movie is that I don't like it. I think there are about a thousand other directions they could have gone in, and I don't like the "Little Trekkers" idea. I'm guessing this isn't the original plot for the movie that was written in the '90's (as I outlined here), since this one appears to take place on the Enterprise. So this may very well end up being a really corny pre-TOS movie that majorly screws up the timeline. Who're they getting for Christopher Pike? Or are we just pretending it didn't happen?

If they didn't want to make another Next Generation movie, I would've liked to see an Enterprise or Voyager or DS9 movie, or even one about characters disassociated with Starfleet. But, I guess if they're going to do it, these actors will be as good as any.

I'm not a huge fan of the show, but even I have seen enough episodes to notice the new Kirk looks NOTHING like a young William Shatner. If anything, he's one of the ugliest actors out of the group.

I believe Rowan was saying Gary Senise should have been cast as McCoy, not Kirk.

Er, yeah... that was McCoy. :/ Not Kirk. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that the actors cast as McCoy and Kirk are a little silly. Considering the negative reaction to Pegg I wonder if anyone's watched his straight man on the TV show Big Train. I think he's a good enough actor to be more than just silly comic relief (that is if the director wants him to be more than that).

McCoy should look 10 years older at least.

Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana and Simon Pegg?? OMG - total and utter babe fest. I'll include Karl Urban on the babe list as long as he's dressed as a Necromonger, because I've seen him in too many low budget NZ films to ever find him attractive in his normal state.

don't think I could watch it. Sylar as Spock
I may be a trekkie but I'm also female - hotness wins in this case... Every woman I know is secretly in love with Sylar (we can make him change, we have the power) ;)

This Chris Pine thing....I don't think I am too happy about this.

Oh well, I guess we will have to wait and see how well he does with the ladies....

From what I remember when ST:TNG came out the new generation of "Trekkies" didnt like being called "Trekkies"....claiming it was "juvenile".
They then coined the word "Trekkers"...couse that sounds more "grown up"??????
I just assume Trekkies are devoted fans of Classic Trek and Trekkers are TNG fans.

Me....iam a Trekkie....tried and true

Ah, well... that makes me a Trekkie, then. Everything post TOS stinks... except, of course, TOS movies.
