A Pool Filled with Non-Newtonian Fluid
A Pool Filled with Non-Newtonian Fluid [video]
They filled a pool with a mix of cornstarch and water made on a concrete mixer truck. It becomes a non-newtonian fluid. When stress is applied to the liquid it exhibits properties of a solid. More info here. Recorded in Barcelona, Spain. picked by misswinkle 1 year ago

« zumacrum : Ooobleck?
Thats it. I just came back here after some research to edit my comment and add that very word. Ooobleck! That stuff is amazing.

I like making oobleck with my kids, and playing with it. An entire pool of that stuff would be so much fun! I wonder if I could convince my husband we need to get a kiddie pool and an industrial strength drill, to stir it all.

They did this on brainiac with custard, and a bigger swimming pool, and a lot of cement mixers

Mythbusters did it also.

It's actually 2 minutes in before Adam starts actually walking on it. Same concept.

Jamie mixed some of that up for Adam on Mythbusters. I don't think I've ever seen a happier kid. Awwhhh.

This stuff is really fun to throw, too. It takes fast hands to form it into a ball, but once you do, throw it against a wall. It shatters like a solid would, but then all the little pieces melt right away. Really cool stuff.

*Extra challenge* Play catch!

Not only was this done on Mythbusters, But the British show Braniac filled a pool with custard and made John Tickle walk across it
