Here's an idea. Go to bed earlier! Why are they throwing money away on this?

I've worked a shift that started at noon and ended at 10 PM.

I've worked a shift that started at 7:00 AM and ended at 3:00.

I would MUCH prefer to get off work earlier than everyone else than get home when everyone is going to bed.

But as Proverb said - it all has to do when you go to sleep.

Dumb idea. In the real world most of us can't sleep in and go to work whenever we want. Kids should get used to it.

11:30 seems a bit late. I would settle for 8:30.

However, it has been proven that teenagers need more sleep than other people, and their bodies are programmed to go to bed later and get up later.
also, when we have to get up SO EARLY, it's hard to do homework, jobs, sports, have any sort of enjoyable life and get enough sleep. every area suffers with too little sleep.
if my school didnt start till 11:30, i would do some hwk, go for a run , and have some energy for the school day! it would be a much more enjoyable way to live.

all of you who say "they should just get used to it", maybe you would change your tune if your job let you sleep in longer or something.

sleep is important, ESPECIALLY for teenagers and children. I think our whole society could use more sleep-- they would be happier and less stupid, maybe.

This also means that they would be getting out of school later. Maybe less time to run around and make trouble? The sports programs would suffer though. Practice already gets out around 5:30 or 6 if I remember correctly so now it'd be closer to 9?! Ouch.

12:00-7:00 sleeping
7:00-8:15 - getting ready for school
8:30 - 4:00 - school
4:00-5:00 - relax
5:00-6:00 - home work
assuming that I get the recomended 8 hours of sleep then I would have to go to bed at 10:00
which leaves 4 hours to do work...thats not including sports or other after school activites

Some people, (myself included) sometimes have to stay up real late to finish a project. I went to school the next day, I was fine. Teens can party all night and not sleep on the weekends but then they complain when they have to get up for school? Its really dumb. Too much has to be changed to have this go into affect I dont think it will work and it doesn't really have too. I feel a little tired when I wake up but after my shower/brekfast Im fine.

I think the 'some people' demographic changes into 'most people' at the university level....
I think my very best English paper writing skills came out at about 2am!

On a more serious not - the working world will expect early starts. I expect people who work for me to be up and ready to go quite early. Allowing school to start at lunchtime will just breed bad habits for later in life, IMO.

Following what Tundramonkey said, and putting myself "out there" for serious hate comments, I don't think 3 months off during the summer is realistic, either. Nobody, and I am including teachers like myself, needs 3 months off unless he or she goes home to help harvest the crops.

That's about the time I get in to work, so I'm all for it! Mornings are overrated haha! But, yeah it really is all in what time you go to bed.

I live in Vegas, by the way, so maybe I'm just used to the night life.
