Was she yelling, "Don't tase me, bro!"

On a serious note: You mean they could take down an 82 year old woman without a taser? Come on!

I'd say take the tasers away, but then they'd be shooting the elderly. This is getting ridiculous....all these damn stories of taser abuse.

You are buying into the hype.
You hear a handful of taser stories. Some might be considered abuse. Other's not so clear.

Still for every story you hear about so-called taser abuse you don't hear about the thousands of cases where they saved the lives of the officer, the suspect, and/or the people around him/her.

We don't know enough info here. How much of an immediate danger was she to others or herself? If she was swinging a hammer, she could have been a big danger. A danger that called for quick and decisive action.

What do you propose that the cop let her hit her victim (if there was one), herself, or possibly the police officer in order to subdue her without the use of a taser?

Why? Because she's 82? What if she was 80? 75? 65? 42? When do you say that the criminal or deranged person can swing at someone with a hammer?

If there wasn't a victim in danger than yes, questions rise. Still, you'd have to know the circumstances to see if justified or not. I will grant that if there wasn't a possible victim, they could have tried talking to her from a safe distance.

But seriously, taser abuse just leads to favorable lawsuits and good stories. It's non-lethal and doesn't do permanent damage. Just shakes you up for a bit. If a cop tasered me unnecessarily, I wouldn't want people whining in my favor. I'd laugh like hell and have a great story.

I doubt you'd be laughing while you were convulsing on the ground with 50,000 volts shooting through you.

I'm pretty sure that before tasers came along, cops were not capping the elderly right and left, hammers or no...

Lol. Only because I wouldn't have enough muscle control to do so. When he stopped though, that would be a different story. I'm just the kind of person that would find it really really funny to get tasered. Maybe I have some issues.

They also aren't capping the elderly now. One incident happened with an armed person (her age has little bearing). I am quite sure there was one elderly person who was shot while wielding a weapon.

As a matter of fact, wasn't there a story earlier this year about some old woman getting shot when the police raided her house under the mistaken belief it was the house of a drug dealer?
