The 9 Most Racist Disney Characters
The 9 Most Racist Disney Characters
These old Disney movies are a little bit like your aging Uncle Frank. Honestly, he means well when he points out that Will Smith is "well-spoken." picked by queenofhearts 2 years ago

Cracked.com is always hilarious, but that one made me more than a little sick to my stomach.

It's funny, because I definitely watched all these when I was a little kid, but I never picked up on any of it. Contrary to what the article says, I had the one with Uncle Remus in it and I watched it all the time, but it never once crossed my mind that he was a slave. Same goes for the crows, the monkeys, etc. I'm not saying its right, but it's funny how different these look to me now that I'm older.

Uncle Remus was a slave? No, he was the lovable grand father figure. Stop ruining my childhood memories.

And the rest is BS, using an accent is not racist... or would it be better if everyone talked like a robot to avoid sounding like any one stereotype.

Now there were a couple that were bad granted...such as fantastia. But I do not agree with the entire list.

"Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face" is the offending line, which was changed on the DVD to the much less provocative "Where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense."
BullCrap! Would that have been offensive if they were talking about cowboys in the old west? I think not. They were both rugged and dangerous areas/times but I guess it is wrong to admit that people used to be brutes.

I noticed they made no mention of such characters as the daft deputy in Robin Hood, who was clearly a red neck. He appeared in many of the Disney flicks of old and was always--forgive me--the goofy one. No one seems bothered by him. Is he not a stereo-type? I say, you see and hear what you want. I watch them for entertainment. The purpose for which they are intended.

Honestly, I read the article as a satire of the over-analytical nature of today's PC police.

Point well taken.

I'm skeptical. Will continuing to over-react to instances of insensitivity solve the problem?

Nope.
