eminent domain laws are a bad thing, I will definitely agree to that. Generally speaking they are unfair.

It really doesn't matter what they say its worth, it doesn't really matter what the county says it is worth.

It matters what the appraiser says it is worth. The people were entitled to hire their own appraiser.

To say you have nowhere to go when you have over 600k in the bank on top of whatever they already had (and I assuming with that much valued property, they probably had quite a bit saved up) is silly. They could go anywhere they please. They could buy another home for cash and probably still have move money left over than the average person in the county.

They cashed the check I am assuming.

Again, I hate the concept of eminent domain laws. I can understand the need for them. I think that the government should have to pay a premium. A percentage over 100% of whatever the appraised value is. Also the government should have to show that purchasing the property is the only option, not just the cheapest or easiest option.

I am not in favor of throwing people out, of taking the home that they have owned for years or even possibly generations.

No I am only saying that crying "i have no where to go" is fine if you are a person with little income and lost your home that was practically worthless and you really are in trouble.

Saying you have nowhere to go when you either are or are extremely close to being a millionaire is bull. Even if they had no money in the bank, even if they were absolutely broke (which there is no way, but even if) they still have close to $700k. I think they might be able to find a place to go.

If they cashed the check, then the property is sold. There is nothing they can do about it at this point since I am pretty sure the state isn't willing to sell them their land back.

Farm land right next to a landfill?

Have you eaten your vegetables today?

Even if they hadn't cashed the check there is little they could do about it. That is one of the f'd up things about laws which allow the government to force you to sell your property.

I wouldn't leave either. I'd make a lot bigger stink than these people did too. One that would end up costing the government at least what it cost me in the long run.

The landfill was build next to them (10 yrs. ago). Their family has owned the land well over 100 year !!! Know your facts before you comment.
