Maybe it's just the Colorado girl in me that likes the local sinage restrictions and what not..
What is the fascination with being the tallest or biggest? Can't you be interesting and cool without hogging up the view? I immediately thought *penis envy* when I pulled those up. Any one of those would be an architectural marvel even on a reasonable scale.

Um. Yeah. Penis envy. It definitely seems to play a role in this. Maybe it's just me, but I thought the Chicago Spire looked like a giant dildo.
«beckinacea : It's at least a smart idea for urban areas... when you have no more room to grow laterally, build vertically.
Is it just me, or does the Chicago Spire look like some crazy dildo?
well, I mean, maybe when you run out of room that's a sign that perhaps it's time to put up the "no vacancy" sign? I'm not a city planner and I also appreciate restrictions on urban sprawl, but having the capacity to have a miniture city in one building has got to screw with the eco of the area (resources, congestion...etc)
