I almost wish the US had that sort of tribunal to stop some of these stupid *ss names parents keep making up and spelling wrong intentionally. Or better yet, lets have IQ minimums for reproduction!

Yeah, I can see how a judge might have the authority to tell parents that they can't give their kid a particular name, but no way in hell should a judge be able to tell parents what they MUST name their child.

I'd be pretty pissed off if someone told me I couldn't name my kid what I wanted to. Its my kid, and I'll name him/her whatever I dang well want.

People don't like my kids names, too freaking bad for them.

People have wanted to name their kids something with a ".com" at the end. At that point I think someone needs to step in for the sake of the kid.

First of all, I love your kids names. I have a daughter named Lylian Skye. I spell it different to give an old lady's name a new look.
And, I think it is good that there are judges that won't let people name their kids stupid names because that kid could get beat up in school, but I also think it is going way too far to tell them what they have to name their kid. I would be really pissed.

I guess I don't get what's wrong with Friday? It doesn't seem like a name that would be made fun of or teased any more than any other name. My first name is NOT that uncommon. It was made fun of in grade school--so were names like Mary, Heather, Bob and the short form of Richard.

As for spelling...hahahahahaha! My maiden name has 4 letters. Just 4. Same for my married name. Both are misspelled so often I can't even count.

According to the article, they said it was derogatory because of the book 'Robinson Crusoe' and because some people in Italy consider Friday to be unlucky.

I fully support a parent's right to name their spawn whatever they choose. Hey, they're going to raise the kid how they want to; they should be able to name him/her how they want to as well.

I've heard the name Friday before, and not just on Dragnet. I think they should have let the couple go with Friday.

Although really, I think you should be able to name your child whatever you want. You made them, you name them.

That's my cousin's name.

By the way, I also have a cousin named Wynsday. This judge can suck it.
