Wow... my grandmother gave birth without assistance a couple of times (she gave birth to 9 babies. My mom, the youngest child was delivered in complete silence and she even had to wake up my grandfather so he'd heat up some water for her to wash the baby), but this is... wow.
The only story comparable I know of is the one about the woman who gave birth on top of a tree after being stranded for three days because of the 2000 floods in Mozambique. Hungry and scared by the crocodiles circling the tree while hoping she would fall down due to exhaustion, she gave birth to a baby girl and was later rescued by a South African helicopter.
