While it was dumb to allow your underage self to be photographed holding alcoholic beverages, it doesn't prove the student was drinking. My opinion is the students shouldn't be suspended but punished for their stupidity in some other way.

They could treat thiis like finding out the kids were smoking; buy them a big bottle of liquer with a high alcohol content and force them to drink the whole thing.

it is a touchy thing... why do school officials need to track down proof on the internet? If they are not in school or on school grounds how does it effect the whole school thing? Wouldn't this be a parenting or private matter within the family? Why not show the photos to police then? Its just creepy that teachers and the like go searching the internet for these things.

If a kid gets wine at church and the principle sees... 2-game suspension? I realize religion is different than recreation but, doesnt the terms of consuption only matter if it is in the boundary of the school?

Prove there was beer in the bottles in the photos, and then suspend them.

My friends used to pretend pixie sticks were full of cocaine... yes, and snort it... good thing there were no pictures of it.

The school shouldn't be looking on the internet for proof of rule breaking, but if school officials are presented evidence of tobacco or alcohol use they have to enforce the rules that atheletes must follow. (No alcohol, tobacco, or drug use for members of any school sanctioned team or group) Now, if they were just students and not atheletes there is nothing the school should be able to do.

The Minnesota High School League rules state that even if you are just at the party where alcohol is served, you will be suspended.

Teachers and school officials don't have time to go trolling for rule breakers; however, we are required by law to contact authorities when we are presented with evidence.

That rule seems unfair but rules aren't always fair.

It's not only Highschool, my best friends greek organizations are not allowed to post pictures of alcohol use. Recently, her Sorority President got stripped of her office for it.

My health teacher did this to us last year!
She got on facebook (showing us how easy it was for someone to get access to yours) and then printed off 10 pictures of students we knew drinking or playing beer pong.

She blocked out their faces, of course, but we could all tell who they were.
Being the cool health teacher, she didn't get the kids in trouble for it.

Texas law is the same; If you're at a party where there is illegal boozin', you're just as guilty.

My sister had pics of herself "drinking" (on myspace) ..and she doesn't drink. I know this. She and her friend were pretending to drink from a bottle of rum (it was obviously full/closed and a prank type picture)

I would hate for her to be suspended over having a little fun with the camera.

I am normally all for the protection of minors from illegal things...

I guess on this one, I'm looking for HOW they got the alledged alcohol in the pics. That seems more the root of the problem.

I'm going to get downvoted for this, but your "cool" teacher could get sued if that information got out. I don't know about the law in Texas, but here in Minnesota teachers are mandatory reporters. We have to tell even if we don't want the kids in trouble.

Post pictures with their faces remove with a big black circle, and there name written over it.

It proves they were there and still saves face.

I upvoted you because I'm a daring rebel.

She told us she spoke to them and we got a school wide "Don't be idiots and post yourself boozing" email a week or so later, but since it was just a warning or something, they kids weren't punished specifically.

It's not mandatory for her to get them in trouble, just report them. Yay for Texass law.

Same happened to a kid in my high school. The kid had on his Myspace page that he drank in his profile. Wasn't even a picture just a mention. I've always been careful of posting on facebook. I've sort of stopped because I heard that once you post them Facebook keeps them and is allowed to use them. (even after you delete them) Personally, I want to keep my pictures my property.(I should really look that up from a credible source however - I could be wrong)
