Solar Eclipse Painting from the 1700s [PIC]
Solar Eclipse Painting from the 1700s [PIC]
Is this painting the earliest realistic depiction of a total eclipse of the Sun? Some historians believe it is. This painting was completed in 1735 by Cosmas Damian Asam, a painter and architect famous in early eighteenth century Germany. Clearly drawn is not only a total solar eclipse, but the solar corona and the diamond ring effect visible when sunlight flows only between mountains on the Moon. picked by FreeMind 2 years ago

Total eclipse of the sun? That's a stretch.

To me it looks way more like the Death Star is blasting Gandalf the Grey while Chunk from Goonies floats in the air above him.

...if you look closely, you can even see that Gandalf is holding The One Ring in his left hand.
