Well then, I'll be the first to comment - the aquifer is being used at a rate much greater than that of its recharge. A large portion of the US's agricultral production in the mid-west depends on this aquifer, as it also supplies several rivers with water (baseflow).

Bottom line - it's drying up, fast, and no one seems to be overly concerned about it.
