BREAKING NEWS: ROMNEY TO SUSPEND CAMPAIGN
BREAKING NEWS: ROMNEY TO SUSPEND CAMPAIGN
"If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror," Romney will say at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington.

That probably is the best move he could make. Republicans need to get behind McCain even if he isn't as conservative as they'd like him to be.

Dividing the republicans, the independent conservative voters, and democrats who might not like Hillary or Obama is not the way to win.

As much animosity as there is against republicans right now (and I'd say that part of Bush's problem is he isn't a republican) the republican nominee will need every vote he can muster.

Absolutely correct, 2many. If they come down to just one candidate, it gives them a big advantage in the next few months. Allows them to form and raise money behind ONE candidate, instead of two.

HOWEVER... I still think McCain will have a big problem trying to beat Obama. He'll have a good fight (and IMO, win) against Clinton... but I don't think he can beat Obama.

Things just keep getting more interesting.

Let me add one more prediction...

Mike Huckabee will drop out of the race either later on today, or in the next few days.

If Romney is leaving because he is more-or-less mathematically eliminated, Huckabee has even less delegates. I wouldn't be surprised if he dropped out soon, saying the Republicans need to rally around McCain, starting today.

If I'm right, everyone owes me a pizza and a beer.

Nah... never gonna happen.

It would be disastrous for McCain. Many Republicans will grudgingly vote for him, over the alternative... but with Lieberman as a running mate, you can kiss that support goodbye. The conservatives would put up a 3rd party candidate, and end any chance McCain had/has of making it out of the Senate.

If voters start to think about McCains age, he'd better choose someone that most voters would accept as president.

I believe this could become an issue if the Dems can hire the Swift Boat people.

McCain is going to pick a conservative VP, to appease the extreme conservatives who aren't terribly excited about the prospects of McCain. Not a liberal independent like Lieberman.

And how is RCP biased?

The polling data I linked to had the results from 3 6 different sources: Time Mag., CNN, Cook/RT Strategies, ABC/Wash Post, FOX News, and NPR. Then it took the average of those results.

To me, that says they took a variety of OTHER people’s data, from a clear range of view points, and used that to make their final averages.

So where’s the bias, again? Is it that they didn’t give the result you were looking for, so they must be biased… or stupid… or both?

Oh, and for anyone wondering who Real Clear Politics is, here’s their “About” information:

Mcain isn't a republican and half of the democrats hate hillary so it isn't really a fair way to judge the situation.

I looked at the home page and it really seems slanted. It still does, even now. My apologies for not looking further, it was late.

I don't think their numbers are a good reflection, but we shall see in November.

Record numbers of Dems have been coming out to vote.

Bush & Co. keep burying us deeper, unless he miraculously figures out how to undo his utter f**kup before November, the polls won't matter, only the votes.
