 Police Vs Skateboarder
Police Vs Skateboarder [video]
A police officer shown on YouTube roughing up a skateboarder has been suspended. The officer got upset at being called "dude" in the video. "I'm not 'man.' I'm not 'dude,' I am Officer Rivieri," he told the teen. "The sooner you learn that, the longer you are going to live in this world.[] You go around doing this kind of stuff and somebody is going to kill you." picked by 2manyusernames 2 years ago

Well he's pretty out of line. The kids seemed willing to leave/respectful. Also, i would be cussing him out about halfway through that video. Also, i would probably be betting arrested slightly later and screaming from getting tasered.

Bet there will be an inquest or something into this.

Edit: need to read more carefully. apparently he HAS been suspended.

I *love* that it's getting harder and harder to hide injustice like this.

Any respect those kids might have had for the law was lost that day.

That looks like the plaza in front of the science museum ain Baltimore. Great skateboard place.

I bet the cop is just mad because he has to drive around in that dude-mobile.

Edit: More here, including another photo of this example of Baltimore's finest, on a vehicle perhaps more suited to his stature.

Make sure you watch until the very end! Then cop says "Is that camera on? Because if I find myself on You-" and then the video cuts out. Priceless.

This is why I hate cops, and this is why I love the internet. :)

Please don't hate cops. They serve us. They protect us. Yes, there's corrupt cops and abusive cops, but by and large that stuff is in the minority.

Cops deserve our respect.

Would you like to hear the stories I have about being harassed by police officers? Yeah, I've met a few nice ones, but my theory is that most of the people who would have been good cops decided to become firefighters instead.

EDIT: I should add too that I have never done anything in my life that should warrant police intervention.

Cops die in the line of duty to protect people like you and me. They don't seem so bad after stuff like that happens. Yeah, they may be jerks sometimes, but they're sacrificing a lot.

I feel sorry for the kids, but thought the cop himself was hilarious. I kept thinking, "every word he says is digging himself a deeper and deeper hole." Somebody definitely got up on the wrong side of the bed that morning.

Just like in so many other videos like this posted on the 'net, I have to wonder if there isn't much more to this story than we see in that video. What if that was the fifth time that afternoon that he'd told those kids they couldn't skate there? What if the video started immediately after the kids stopped shouting obscenities at him and mocking his goofy little car? What if we didn't see the kids flipping him off and mooning him right as the video started?

The guy was definitely a d**k to those kids in the video. But we shouldn't assume that they weren't all being d**ks to him before the video started.

Are you coming straight out of Compton? You spelled 'tha' wrong.

You must always remember that in all walks of life, in all groups and organization, in all places; there will be a*****es. When a*****es represent the group, they represent poorly.

Don't let a few a*****es ruin your perception of police officers. By the vary nature of their job they are intrusive and demanding, some just go too far with it.

Most of the cops I've met have been pretty cool. And I have done plenty of things that required their attention.

This isn't the first time something like this has happened.
Search "skate week" on youtube, maybe with a couple "security" and "cop" tags added in, skaters are constantly harassed by cops.
I'm not picking a side, because sometimes the cop is wrong, sometimes the skater is wrong. But go watch those videos, and see just how bad it gets sometimes.

Obviously we can't do without police in our society. However, since the police are armed, organized and have lawful privileges, saying 'there are bad cops and good cops like with everything else' is just not acceptable.

There CAN'T be bad cops and there CAN'T be a**holes or even just cops with bad judgement. The police will have my respect as soon as they manage to keep their force clean and I don't hear about jackasses cuffing kids in kindergarten, intimidating and manhandling minors, [long list] on a daily basis.

I have lived both in the US and Europe for many years, while I would never hesitate to approach an officer in the old world, I avoid their US-colleagues like the plague. Even as a kid I wasn't treated right by them and I was a clean and shy geek.

I have to agree this seems completly wrong, but without the whole story it is hard to judge. In this situation no matter how you look at it this officer, officer "dude", went too far with this and could have resolved it in a more professional manner...but that cant ruin it for the good police..i know they are out there i saw them on an episode of cops once.

I hear you on this one, I've met good and bad cops in the times I've been an a*****e and times I've genuinely needed their help.

I've also taken a few slaps and mistreatment at the hands of cops but looking back I'd have acted the same given the provocation I gave them.

**edit** I had the same attitude that Germz has now about the police until I matured and had kids who I want to grow up with the healthy respect for the law that I never had growing up.

Now I hate seeing the bulls**t attitude a lot of kids have for the police and the abuse the police put up with on a day to day basis is sickening.

The armchair psychoanalyst in me sees this as a case of a man (Rivieri) who feels that he isn't given the amount of respect that he 'deserves' - thinks about all the years spent on the force and he's patrolling touristy areas instead of working big cases, etc. - so he takes his frustrations out on the only people he CAN boss around: 14 year olds.
