U.S. recognizes independent Kosovo
The US has officially recognized Kosovo as an independent nation today. Something else for people to fight and get killed over. Because, you know, we can NEVER have enough reasons for that.

It was Communist.
Everyone hated it.

Sadly, the Balkans were always a boiling cauldron (excluding Greece and Bulgaria). Ever since the fall of the Ottoman Empire. By the way, the Ottoman - European clashes mostly took place there, it became the least developed region of Europe. And then came the 20th century, beginning with the Balkan Wars ('12-'13), assassination of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austro-Hungarian Empire what led to WWI, then the pseudo-peace period of the communism, then after it the Yugoslav Wars(1991-2001). And now this...
This region just deserves a good long peace.
But the big guys doing it again. The US and most of the EU recognizes, Russia,Spain and Romania doesn't,how nice. I hope it won't develope into something more bigger and horrible.
