I can understand the situtation, but I dont see why they didn't either arrest the boy (if there was a problem) or she didn't leave.

Well it was an ex-boyfriend so I don't think she wouldn't leave, but you are right and it is possible that she dropped the complaint many times. It certainly wouldn't be the first time that a person stayed in an abusive relationship even if the person is an ex.

The outcome of this will depend on how many times she called and how they investigated the calls.

There is such a thing as "the boy who cried wolf". At some point the police can't stop and resort their resources to something that never pans out.

If someone here was wrongly accused of a crime, especially by a ex who may have an axe to grind, you'd be very upset if the police investigated you time after time after time after time, only to find no cause for arrest.

Of course as I said, did they really investigate her claims and how did they do so?

Also what was her reaction to the investigations? Did she aid or hinder them? Yes she called it in, but there are tons of times when person 'a' will call the cops on person 'b' then change her mind, say it is all okay, no problems etc.

This doesn't seem to be the case here, but it is one possibility.

No it really depends on how much time was spent responding to her allegations. What is the magic number that would exonerate the cops? I have no idea, but that doesn't change the fact that at some point the cops will stop investigating.
