I'm sure that none of you fine educated folk need any explanation of why this is a fool's venture that Burnham has entered into.

Even ignoring the legal minefield that openly* monitoring indivual customer's traffic and then acting on that information, the logistics in effective policing would be so overbearing as to prove impossible.

Random sampling would be no good as a short cut as any halfway competent legal counsel could get the charge quashed on the grounds of inconsistency.

This is one step along the route to a Nanny State that I'm confident will cause the Government to stumble.

Someone please bookmark this thread and remind me of it April next year - there may be a chance to mock me for how wrong I was.

*It does happen covertly. I've been indirectly involved in it.

So these ISP's will have to resort to illegal tracking of its users to stop illegal downloading for the mu$ic and Movie$ industries ... anybody else amazed at our brilliant leadership in action. Nice to know where their allegiance lie$.
