The $3 million winning bid for the Record Rama collection on eBay was a fraud.
"Jopsoup", the winning bidder says he didn't even know about the bid until after the fact and that he was a victim of identity theft.

selling it as a package may be the quickest way to unload it and it does generate publicity (which turns out to be a mixed blessing). He would get more money if he broke it up into different genres, media type, etc.

Jazz lovers might want his entire jazz collection but might not be interested in his country, disco, or whatever collection. Others might be interested in his 45s of any genre, but not interested in the CDs

I guess they didn't want to offer a "second chance" to the next highest bidder.

Yes, but as the earlier post stated, he doesn't want to break up the collection.

Maybe if his health goes further down hill, he will have no choice.
